Textile Art Is A Traditional Medium

Textile too most is Quilting, Clothing, Painting on Fabric and Wall hanging just to name a few.Constance Terrell has been manipulating textiles into beautiful fine art from 1996-2009. Her art style is somewhat unexpected and a risky path to take. Nevertheless, Constance staked a claim in the cutting edge territory of the time.

Constance maintained her credentials as a innovator by choosing never to rest on her previous successes. As the twenty-first century unfolds and the art world seems increasingly dominated by artists who have embraced the new technologies, I am impressed by the power of abstract textile art, to hold its ground.

Despite the expanding spectrum of media and high-tech tools, painting and abstraction art still offers a realm of visual pleasure and intellectual fulfillment that remains compelling.

Soft Sculpture - at its Finest

Constance Terrell has been using fabric and acrylic innovation for more than fourteen years. As seen in her display at the Ethnic Notions Fine Art Gallery in Vallejo, CA. Terrell’s has a pristine way of manipulating fabric, using her risky two-sided, and ceiling to wall hanging, floating in thin air Lotus Flower design. In observing the Burning Bush, exhibit at Portfolio Gallery in St. Louis Missouri, writer, Janet Riehl, http://www.riehlife.com/ called the matted and framed beauty --- Soft Sculpture in a traditional way. Terrell feels using these words to describe her art helps people glimpse an understanding of what she is undertaking in her art.

The 2001 Looking Out Collection, greeted the crowd at Oakland City Hall. It was linen on canvas. The collection accompanied her eight foot column, June Steingart Gallery exhibit; Who Am I juried show which chose SOS and Pot Art.
The Exhibit JAZZ, on the beautiful campus of Laney College, Tower Building, inspired Terrell to probe Dr. Leslee Stratford’s analysis of the sculpture. Stradford said, “JAZZ can pull on its own and a solo hanging in the tower building, suits it just fine.”

In assessing Terrell’s creation and complements of fabric floating in thin air with a wine and cheese atmosphere added to the likes of JAZZ, Pot Art, Soft Sculpture to the learning experiences on how Fabric can transcend traditional fine art style and yet seen differently enhances... living on the cutting edge that is home to the artist.

CUTTING EDGE SCULPTURE by CTSCULPTURE

Growing up my mother and three grandmothers, who had there own unique art talent and was constanly exhibiting art in their house. Mother loved doing large murals with her children every Christmas. Grandma Betty worked in the sweat shops in the sewing or cutting area, she would mail us remnants from the Los Angles sweat shops. Grandma Jerry crocheted ruffled doilies. Her crocheted doilies had many layers of ruffles that she dipped into the hot cooked boxed starch, for a few minutes, than laying them on a flat surface to cool. The more they cooled the higher she could make the ruffles stand.

I base my theory on the knowledge that was hand down to me as a starting point that is ever developing. I have chosen fabric for my medium death do us part. My very first technical training was taught at Highland elementary School Miss Joan Mcdonald my sixth grade teacher who opened the door to pastels, chalk, water colors and acrylic. Life's twists and turns have shown me that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Staying focus and kept introducing myself to the ever changing world of art.
